Chun-Tzu Chang 張君慈

from Taiwan, lives and works in Germany

Chang's work focuses on public space. She observes the relationship between the individual and the group in the context of evolved economic structures. In 2018, she explored the regional design plan in urban development of Berlin in two film projects. "The Parable", is an experimental photographic film. In the film "The Speculation", she, herself, displays forms of land speculation in a performance. She was inspired by the thinking of Marc in her work. In the performance, she visualizes through symbolical warning how, in an existing welfare state, capitalist practices create, inter alia, a lack of space and escalating rents. Since 2019, Chang has been exploring the theme of ‘home’. She looks at the individual's identification with the homeland and the mechanisms by which state agencies manipulate this perception and content of identities to promote the loyalty of individuals. The exploration of the theme is based on her personal memories, which she contrasts with official narratives and ideals. She uses everyday objects, photography, and her own body to reflect the structure of power in public space. Chang has practical professional experience in architectural design, urban planning, artistic creation, art theory, exhibition practice, and the interdisciplinary connection between architecture and art.
